Four Billion Years is a song from David Haines's Darwin Songs. Originally known as the Lifetime Project, these were premiered in Dawlish, UK in 2004, subsequently received their USA premiere as part of the first Cambridge Science Festival at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2007 performed by North Cambridge Family Opera Festival Chorus, and received a further performance in Ivybridge, UK in December 2007.
This film records a very special day - 14th July 2008 - when five professional singers from the Choir Connexion agency in London came to the heart of rural Devon to work with Teignmouth and Ivybridge Community Choirs on developing a gospel-style interpretation of the song. Our hosts were the Pajovic family at Larkbeare Farm near Mamhead - you see Rosy feeding the piglets. The young classical soloist you see early on is soprano Stephanie Green from Exeter. The artist whose studio we workshopped in is Mike Nuth, The leader of the gospel singers is Waleed Isaacs, The whole day was sponsored by Singtastic.com, a new online publishing company whose website will go fully live by October 2008 with science educational songs suitable for individuals and educational institutions of all ages. |
